The quality of many apps on the AppStore suck. There, I said it.A lot of these developers will blame the AppStore for being “terrible”. In reality, they’ve established a belief that it’s an instant money machine, not requiring marketing or careful design and planning.

And these developers don’t realize the core issue - their app looks terrible. It isn’t Apple’s fault, by any measure. In fact, Apple has their Apple Design Awards each year to reward great apps. It’s the shitty design of these apps, and their developers’ lack of design intuition, that causes the problem.

It’s a worthwhile investment to hire a designer, and to trust them and their ideas. If you’re a developer, or even just some bean-counter who isn’t good at design, you need a skilled designer. Otherwise, you shouldn’t expect much.
