Think Positive
It’s all in how you perceive it: I prefer the term “progressive”, rather than “liberal”.“Progressive” implies moving forward, and can be used to describe moderates, which is probably the direction I truly tend to go. I’m still pro-life, and conservative in other areas (not a big fan of giving gays a free-for-all).
“Liberal” implies such ideas as “loose” or “not-so-tightly-literal”, which can be worrisome. Sure, we shouldn’t be complete suit-and-tie gotta-be-clocked-in-at-time assholes like Bush, but if we let the line of interpretation of our laws continuously slip, then eventually we’ll be so far from the original intentions of those laws, we won’t know right from wrong anymore.
And, as a Christian, I believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, a framework of how we should live. There are some absolute truths and rules it sets out (only a few, and very easy, really), and other things which are allegorical and symbolic, as well as examples of how people followed Him in their cultures, and how it turned out for them.
With these absolute truths, there are some things we can’t be “liberal” or even “progressive” with.
